(June 14 through Dec. 2000) We formally introduced to the Washington, DC public the Flight Centennial Collection at a reception the evening of Wednesday June 14, 2000. Twenty-eight pieces from the Collection were transported to the Washington National Airport and mounted for the show.
We entertained invited guests from the metropolitan area, as well as other areas of the country, including New England, California and Florida. Airport Manager Christopher U. Browne was present, as well as a number of his colleagues, including Airport Authority Architect Daniel Feil.
We would especially like to thank Chris Browne and his staff for their superb hospitality and help in setting the exhibit. The exhibit came about when we met with him in Florida last winter and introduced him to the work. He was quoted recently in the Ft. Myers News-Press. "I was introduced to Jo-Ann's work, specifically the work that she's done with aircraft fabrics and parts and was intrigued by it," he said at the time. He had an idea for using space between the old and new terminals at Washington National Airport for art display. "This seemed a good opportunity to kick that off," he said, since the subject was relevant, and the exhibit will receive national and international exposure from passenger traffic there.
